In an era where sustainable practices in construction are essential and the demand for certain raw materials outstrips supply, using aggregates produced by recycling inert waste is an ideal solution.

Avon Material Supplies (AMS) has been a leading supplier of superior recycled aggregate for many years, utilised in high-profile projects including the road network for the 2012 Olympics. AMS stands at the forefront of this environmentally responsible practice. Here’s a closer look at how AMS transforms inert waste into valuable recycled aggregates.

Step 1: Collection and Tipping at Recycling Centres

The process of recycling starts with collecting inert materials. This is done by customers tipping their inert waste at any of the disposal facilities AMS operates in Dorset and Somerset. We also collect waste directly from homes, businesses, and construction sites across Dorset, Somerset, and West Hampshire using our own fleet of grab and tipper trucks.

Step 2: On-site Processing

Upon arriving at our processing plant, each batch of inert waste undergoes a thorough visual inspection to confirm compliance and suitability for recycling. The materials are then organised into stockpiles in readiness for transformation. We use an excavator and a scalping screener to meticulously remove oversized materials for crushing. Through various stages of processing, we eliminate light, unwanted materials and size the aggregate to create a range of sellable products, such as sands, soils, and shingles. A byproduct of this process is our Class 2a fill material, which is an essential component for many construction products. Remarkably, our Canford Inert Facility can accept and process up to 350,000 tonnes of material annually!

Step 3: Storage and Use

After processing, the materials are either moved to stockpiles or directly to the concrete plant for production. Recycled aggregates from AMS are perfect for various uses, with concrete production and sub-surface projects like drainage and cable laying being among the most common. This versatility showcases how recycled aggregates bring value to the construction industry.

Step 4: Recycled Aggregates – Bagged and Loose

At AMS, we understand the varied needs of our clients, which is why our recycled aggregates can be collected from Canford Inert Facility or delivered directly to the site in bulk bags or loose loads. Onsite, we have the capability to load vehicles of any size, ensuring that our customers receive precisely what they need. Our user-friendly online ordering system makes delivery orders easy and customisable, offering a seamless experience for our esteemed customers.

Our Commitment to Responsibility, Efficiency, and Sustainability

At AMS, we prioritise environmental responsibility, efficient waste handling, and strict sustainability procedures in our operations. In an industry facing natural aggregate scarcity and a pressing need for sustainable solutions, choosing recycled aggregates is a decision that benefits both the environment and the community.
