This month we want to introduce Andy Hill, Site Manager at AMS Doonans in Weymouth!
Andy Hill oversees operations at AMS Doonans with the expertise and dedication that comes from 18 years with the business. Residing on the scenic Isle of Portland, Andy’s journey to AMS Doonans began unexpectedly after a decade in furniture removals and a subsequent shift to tipper driving in 1990 due to redundancy. His approach to work at AMS is hands-on, ensuring that every task, from client communication to on-site safety checks, is handled with utmost professionalism and efficiency.
As the site manager, Andy embodies the core values of AMS – quality, reliability, and customer service. “My role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from ensuring seamless communication to rigorously upholding our site safety standards. My commitment is to ensure operational excellence and maintain the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness in every aspect of our work.”
His responsibilities include:
- Effectively manage the static concrete batching plant, mobile plant, HGV, LGV tippers, drum mixers, and volumetric concrete lorries.
- Oversee and manage all on-site employees.
- Ensure the business operates within budget expectations.
- Produce and deliver concrete products according to customer orders.
- Supply aggregates and other construction products as ordered by customers.
- Conduct customer visits to provide high levels of service.
- Manage the efficient routing and job completion of all delivery vehicles.
- Address and resolve customer queries and complaints promptly.
- Oversee daily checks and maintenance of the batching plant, mobile plant, and delivery vehicles.
- Maintain BSI Accreditation for accredited concrete products and uphold Health & Safety standards.
The transition to site management brought its challenges, but for Andy, the team spirit and continuous learning opportunities, such as mastering the new Command Alkon system and integrating new colleagues into our operations, are what make the role truly rewarding.
“I enjoy the day-to-day camaraderie. It’s the challenges, and meeting new work colleagues, that keep the job exciting and fulfilling,” he reflects. Since the merger with AMS, the opportunities for growth and improvement have expanded, providing Andy with ample avenues for learning and development as he continues to enhance our operations and service delivery.
