Our Story
Over the past 30+ years, AMS has grown from a trusted local supplier into a comprehensive service provider. Here are some of the key milestones that have shaped our journey.

April 1993
Humble Beginnings
Avon Material Supplies Ltd was founded by Ian and Lyn Mariner, operating from their home. They employed their first team member, Kevin Hawkins, who remains with the company today—marking over 32 years of dedicated service and continued growth.

May 2008
Somerset Growth
AMS acquired Southwood Skip Hire, including the Southwood Recycling Centre in Evercreech, Somerset. This strategic move enabled the company to expand into Somerset, grow its skip lorry fleet, and increase its regional presence in waste management services.

April 2010
Fleet Expansion
AMS secured its first Operator’s Licence and absorbed Alan Everett Haulage, its largest sub-contractor. Today, the company can operate up to 65 vehicles and 12 trailers across six centres, significantly expanding its logistics capabilities and fleet management operations.

December 2013
Service Diversification
AMS acquired Nationwide Direct, a brokerage company, enabling broader geographic reach and an expanded service offering. This key acquisition allowed AMS to enhance customer solutions and strengthen its position within the waste and recycling industry.

May 2024
Brand Integration
AMS unified operations by acquiring the business activities of associated company Commercial Recycling. All sites and services now operate under the AMS brand, streamlining operations and delivering a more cohesive, efficient customer experience.

January 2025
AMS Doonans Acquisition
AMS acquired Harrold Doonans Building Supplies, based at Lynch Lane Industrial Estate in Weymouth. This acquisition strengthens AMS’s footprint in Dorset and extends its offering within the building and construction materials sector.
